The Jaguar XFR-S has been unveiled at the 2012 LA Auto Show. It's Jaguar's fastest and most powerful saloon ever and goes on sale in May, for 79,995.
The range-topping Jaguar XF builds on the same formula as the XKR-S Coupe and Convertible. It's based on the XFR model, but power from the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 has been boosted by 39bhp to 542bhp and torque is now a thumping 502lb ft all going through a newly developed eight-speed 'Quickshift' auto 'box, which will also be used by the forthcoming F-type sports car.
These upgrades mean the XFR-S can now sprint to 60mph in 4.4 seconds (a 0.3-second improvement) and go on to 186mph. Fuel consumption and emissions stay the same, aided by an engine stop-start system for the first time.
Jaguar engineers claim that the XFR-S is both more agile and more confidence-inspiring than the standard version. Technical changes include revised front and rear suspension, along with tweaks to the electronic safety systems that make it more entertaining to drive.
Other enhancements over the standard XFR include new 20-inch alloys, two new rear wing options and new leather trim.
