Review

The C5 Aircross is a great-value large SUV that majors on comfort and refinement, but also offers flexible and frugal engines, versatile seating, a big boot and a decent amount of kit. Don't buy it if you want a plush interior, agile handling or seven seats, though, because its bigger sibling, the Peugeot 5008, and the Kia Sorento do those things rather better.

Well worth looking at. It adds plenty of useful extras, including privacy glass, part-leatherette seat trim, power-folding door mirrors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, front parking sensors, a rear-view camera and keyless entry.

This combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 13.2kWh battery pack and electric motor, sending a total of 222bhp to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It makes the Hybrid the quickest model in the range, but sometimes there's a delay after putting your foot down and both systems waking up. Working on its own, the electric motor has enough poke to get you calmly up to motorway speeds and its official all-electric range is 34 miles. Great if you're looking for cheap company car tax or cheap running costs, but you have to keep the battery charged up to achieve the latter.
