The seven-seat Dacia Jogger is good to drive, immensely practical and well-equipped. Used examples now look very attractive.

Used Dacia Jogger 2022-present review
Star rating

What's the used Dacia Jogger MPV like?

Fancy a reasonably stylish car that easily seats seven but doesn't cost a fortune to buy? Welcome to the Dacia Jogger, a neat-looking MPV that, bought new, is the cheapest seven-seat car on sale in the UK.

It's great value used, too, and well worth a look if you need space and practicality but don't want to spend a fortune on something that might seem almost affordable but turns out to be perilously ancient.

Overview

The Dacia Jogger is an extremely well-thought-out people mover with genuine seven-seat usability, decent driving dynamics and plenty of equipment. It's now a really affordable second-hand buy, too. Ony the question mark over its safety ratings holds it back.

  • Good seven-seater
  • Affordability
  • Nice to drive
  • Safety ratings are an issue
  • Engines can be noisy
  • Not quite as practical as one or two rivals

Engines and performance: There are only two options: a 1.0 TCe 110 and a 1.6 TCe 140 Hybrid. The 1.0 TCe keeps costs down but still has enough power to go from 0-62mph in 11.2 seconds. It isn’t the smoothest engine, mind. The power delivery is quite abrupt, with lag at low revs before the turbocharger kicks in and pushes you into your seat.

If you want more power or an automatic gearbox, you’ll want to go for the 138bhp 1.6-litre hybrid petrol. It’s punchier than the TCe 110 and has a surprising amount of poke off the line, with official figures suggesting it’ll get from 0-62mph in 10.0 seconds.

Ride and handling: You won’t have any complaints about the ride, because all Joggers come shod with sensibly sized 16in wheels, so you get tyres with generous sidewalls to help absorb bumps.

For a tall car, it corners neatly. It also grips the road well, giving you confidence as you drive along and can even carry a bit of speed through the bends. If you're looking for a people carrier that’s more enjoyable to hustle around, try the Ford S-Max.

Interior and practicality: Most drivers should find it easy to get a comfortable driving position in the Dacia Jogger. As with most MPVs you sit higher up than in a typical family car.

In the TCe 140 Hybrid, you get a 7.0in digital driver’s display that shows similar information to the 3.5in display you get with the TCe 110, but extra adds information about the hybrid system and regenerative braking.

Our favoured Expression trim level gives you an 8.0in colour touchscreen system. It includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring so you can use apps from your phone for calls, music and navigation. On Extreme versions, you also get wireless Apple CarPlay and a built-in sat-nav system.

There's plenty of room in the front of the Dacia Jogger, with space to stretch out in all directions.

Most rear-seat passengers will find that the Jogger seven-seater gives them good head and leg room, making journeys comfortable. Taller occupants, on the other hand, will wish that the middle row of seats could slide backwards because knee room is slightly limited.

The same can be said about those sitting in the third-row seats, where they’ll have no issues with head room and enough leg room to get comfortable.

With the third row of seats in place, the Jogger has a similar amount of boot space to the VW Touran, but it doesn't have that car's underfloor storage.

If you've got a big load rather than people to carry, you can fold down the second-row seats and remove the two back ones to create a van-like cargo area that’s one metre wide and two metres long up to the front seats.

Trims and equipment: The Jogger's entry-level Essential trim comes with quite a lot of equipment, including 16in steel wheels with wheel trims, keyless entry, cruise control, rear parking sensors, LED headlights, manual air-conditioning and basic infotainment.

Expression comes with front and rear parking sensors, heated and electrically-adjusted wing mirrors and automatic windscreen wipers. It also adds an 8.0in touchscreen infotainment, blind-spot monitoring and a helpful reversing camera.

Extreme adds 16in wheels and a copper exterior and interior trim package, heated front seats, second row seat-mounted trays and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay.

Facelift: The Jogger hasn't been given a facelift yet as such, but Dacia did add the brand's new badge to the car in 2023. You'll notice changes on the grille, steering wheel and bootlid.

"I often found myself pressing the Jogger's Eco button. This not only softens the engine response to improve fuel economy, but also makes it smoother to drive."Mark Pearson, Used Cars Editor

How much does it cost to run a Dacia Jogger MPV?

MPG

The Jogger's fuel economy is respectable for the MPV class, with the TCe 140 Hybrid proving particularly efficient around town, with more than 60mpg easily achievable.

On average, though, we only managed 44.7mpg on a route that consisted of town, A-road and motorway driving, which is less impressive for a hybrid. We also had a go in the TCe 110, and found the average fuel economy to be not too far behind that of the hybrid.

Road tax

All Joggers will be charged under the current road tax system. The current rate is £195 per year. But because no Dacia costs more than £40,000 when new, all will escape the additional fee applied to such expensive vehicles. To find out more about the current road tax costs, click here for further information.

Servicing costs

The fixed-price monthly servicing plan Dacia offers customers of its new cars isn’t transferable to subsequent owners, but even so, maintenance costs are pretty reasonable.

Insurance costs

An entry-level model will sit in insurance group 8, while a top-spec one will be in 15. This is a fair bit lower than rivals, although, in fairness, many of these can be had with more powerful engines.

Warranty

From new, every Jogger comes with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty, but it can be extended up to six years or 75,000 miles if you service your car annually at an authorised Dacia dealer. While that's pretty good, it's still no match for Kia's seven-year, 100-mile cover.

Safety

This is a fly in the Jogger's ointment, because it scored a very disappointing one star out of five when it was tested for safety by Euro NCAP in 2021. It was deducted a star for the lack of a seatbelt reminder for the third row of seats, and did badly for pedestrian protection and safety assistance.

However, every Jogger is fitted with tyre-pressure monitoring, six airbags, hill-start assist, Isofix child-seat mounts for the outer two places in the second row, and e-Call emergency assistance. Automatic emergency braking (AEB) is included too, but it doesn't recognise pedestrians – another factor in the one-star rating. Mid-range Essential trim adds blind-spot monitoring.

Reliability

The Dacia Jogger proved largely reliable in our latest What Car? Reliability Survey, based on feedback from real-world owners.

Most drivers experienced no serious issues, with many appreciating the Jogger’s straightforward engineering. However, some did report annoying warning lights that appeared without clear cause, and resolving these could involve repeated trips to the dealer.

While customer service was often praised, experiences with repairs were more hit-and-miss. Delays and difficulty diagnosing faults were common themes, especially with electrical glitches.

Our recommendations

Which used Dacia Jogger MPV should I buy?

Engine

The Dacia Jogger engine range starts with a turbocharged 109bhp 1.0-litre petrol, and it’s our pick of the range.

Badged the TCe 110, it keeps costs down but still has enough power to go from 0-62mph in 11.2 seconds. True, that’s much longer than the 8.9 seconds it takes the 1.5-litre petrol VW Touran but it's easily quick enough to keep up with the flow of traffic.

Trim

We’d recommend going for Expression trim if you can – it’s still amazing value, but comes with front and rear parking sensors, heated and electrically-adjusted wing mirrors and automatic windscreen wipers. It also adds an 8.0in touchscreen infotainment, blind-spot monitoring and a helpful reversing camera.

Alternatives

What alternatives should I consider to a used Dacia Jogger MPV?

If you just want seven seats cheap, the Citroen Berlingo is a good bet. Okay, it's the same as the Peugeot Rifter and Vauxhall Combo Life underneath, but the Berlingo’s better level of standard equipment and slightly plusher feel make it an even better used buy. Add in its hugely spacious interior and a decent ride and you’ll find the Berlingo a relaxing place in which to cover miles.

The Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer is a much bigger car than the Jogger. It's well-equipped, stylish and one of the most comfortable MPVs around. Being the Grand version means it's blessed with versatile seating for seven, and you get a huge boot when the third row is folded into the floor. The engine range is strong and fuel-efficient, plus it rides and handles well for a car of this size. Refinement is good, too, making long trips with the family just that bit more bearable.

The versatile VW Touran is a spacious, refined and classy all-rounder, with a dashboard and interior that is both elegant to behold and easy to use. Perhaps most important of all, though, is how brilliantly clever the Touran’s seating flexibility is. It's pricier than the Jogger, though, and unfortunately its recent reliability record has been very poor.
