Thick pillars and a small rear window hinder visibility, but the high seating position gives a good view. Tall drivers will struggle to make themselves comfortable, as the seat offers little height adjustment and the steering wheel adjusts only a little up or down, and not for reach. The large controls are easy to use, but the instruments are in the middle of the dash, so you have to take your eyes off the road to check them.
Daihatsu Materia Hatchback space & practicality
Plentiful headroom makes this small car feel big inside - and that's before you slide back the single-piece rear bench to create lots of legroom. However, narrow side windows and a dark interior create an oppressive atmosphere. The front passenger seat back can fold almost flat if required, while the rear seat splits and folds 60:40. This creates a large, nearly flat load bay. The loading lip is usefully low, too. There's a total of eight drinks holders and several useful storage compartments.

There's just one trim level, and although none of the kit looks particularly flashy, much comes as standard, including rear privacy glass, electric windows, a CD player, front and rear foglamps, and rear parking sensors. The only cost option is metallic paint.
