The Ford Ecosport’s chunky looks are easy to fall for, but it’s a disappointing car to drive and is stingy with space

Trim: Zetec

Even the entry-level Zetec spec comes with a long list of standard equipment, including a DAB radio, two USB sockets, 16in alloy wheels, air-con, electric front and rear windows and a leather steering wheel and gearlever.

Engine: 1.5 EcoBlue

As for diesels, there’s a 99bhp diesel or a higher-output 124bhp unit that is the only Ecosport engine to be offered with four-wheel drive. Both are worth considering if you do a lot of miles, due to their superior economy and good mid-range urgency. However, for most people, the petrols will make more sense.
