The only trim level for the Tourneo Courier is Zetec, which gets you a DAB radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity but not an infotainment screen – instead, there’s a dock that enables you to set your smartphone into the dashboard. You can upgrade to a 4.0in digital screen or a 6.0in colour touchscreen with sat-nav. Other equipment includes heated door mirrors, a heated windscreen, hill start assistance, tyre pressure monitoring and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
With a lowly 99bhp to power a car weighing 1320kg, this 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine sounds optimistic. But don’t fear, because it gives a surprising amount of kick, especially at low revs. It’s the same engine as offered in the Ford Focus Estate, and it doesn’t feel out of place in this bigger package whatsoever; in fact, it even beats the 128bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine in the rival Vauxhall Combo Life for real-world power and progression.
