The Honda Civic Saloon is good to drive, has a big boot and comes with lots of standard kit. Shame its infotainment system is so poor

Trim: SR

SE might come with the basics, but we’d recommend upgrading to SR trim. This gets you 17in alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, auto wipers, fog lights, a leather steering wheel and gearknob, lumbar adjustment on the driver’s seat and crucially a 7.0in touchscreen infotainment system with sat nav. Although it’s the worst system in the class, you do get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that allows you to bypass it entirely.

Engine: 1.6 i-DTEC

Company car drivers and those doing in excess of 12,000 miles a year might want to consider the diesel. It’s not as refined as similar diesel engines in the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3, but it is quieter than the Ford Focus’ oil-burner. It’s strong enough, but does have a narrow powerband.
