Review

A sensible small car with plenty of space and equipment, the Hyundai i20 is an affordable and capable city cruiser. Its engines feel a bit gutless compared with rivals in the Ford Fiesta, though, and you’ll find yourself wanting a bit more oomph on the motorway.

Trim: Premium Nav

Premium Nav adds various luxuries, including front parking sensors, climate control, sat-nav, automatic wipers and a smartphone docking station. It’s a good choice at only £1000 or so more than SE.

Engine: 1.0 T-GDi

The 1.0 turbo engine is certainly the best performer in the range, coping easily around town and able to handle longer motorway journeys. Even so, these engines don’t come close to the kind of impressive, flexible performance offered by Ford’s Ecoboost or Volkswagen’s TSI engines.
