Used Jaguar F-Pace 2016-2024 reliability review

The Jaguar F-Pace makes a decent used buy, being good to drive, well equipped and reasonably practical. There are more comfortable alternatives, though.

What should I look for in a used Jaguar F-PACE?

What are the most common problems with a used Jaguar F-PACE?

When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.

Some models may have been specified with enormous 22in alloy wheels that will definitely be susceptible to kerb damage. And the cost of either refurbishing or replacing one of those will be huge, so examine those wheels carefully.

The F-Pace is a big car and can be a challenge to fit into tight parking spaces. Front and rear parking sensors are standard to help you out, however, a rising window line and a rather small back window affect over-the-shoulder visibility. Check for any bodywork damage because this SUV is made mostly out of aluminium, which can cost more to repair than conventional steel.

As with any used car, make sure the F-Pace has a full service history with maintenance carried out at the scheduled intervals. This is because Jaguar's four-cylinder engines are known to have issues with the timing chain if the engine is not properly maintained. If the timing chain is faulty, you'll hear a rattling or knocking noise from the engine, especially when it's cold.

Is a used Jaguar F-PACE reliable?

Used Jaguar F-Pace 2016-2024 info

The Jaguar F-Pace is about average for reliability, albeit not catastrophically so.

In our latest What Car? Reliability Survey, the F-Pace came 23rd out of 46 cars in the family SUV class. This was a slightly better result than it's posted in recent years. Its reliability score of 94.2% is respectable enough, and makes it a more reliable car than the rival Range Rover Velar, but less reliable than the Porsche Macan and 2015-2022 Mercedes GLC.

The main trouble spot proved to be the bodywork, so that's an area worth thoroughly checking over before you sign on the dotted line – it attracted the highest fault rate (5.3%). The air-con, battery, brakes and sat-nav/infotainment attracted a fault rate of 4.0% each.

As a car brand, Jaguar also proved itself to be below average for reliability, but it still ranked above Audi, Mercedes and Porsche in our most recent survey. It finished in 20th place of 30 manufacturers with a reliability score of 90.1%, which is a better result than in recent years, where it has ranked towards the bottom.

Owners often report satisfaction with the dependability of their vehicles, especially highlighting newer models for having fewer issues. However, there have been mentions of electrical and infotainment system glitches, which have been points of frustration for some.

Dealer service experiences have also varied. Positive comments often mention attentive and professional service, with many dealers going above and beyond to resolve issues promptly and keep owners informed throughout the process. Yet, there are accounts of inconsistencies in service quality, with some readers expressing disappointment over delayed repair times and perceived high costs for maintenance and repairs.

Overall, feedback suggests there's room for improvement in both vehicle reliability and uniformity in dealer service quality.
