Jaguar may have a stable full of sensible saloons and SUVs these days, but the F-Type Convertible proves that it hasn’t forgotten its heritage. Harking back to sports cars such as the achingly beautiful E-Type of the 1960s, it’s a strict two-seater that puts the emphasis on performance and style.
Under its mile-long bonnet, you can have anything from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine right up to an angry sounding 5.0-litre supercharged V8. So, while prices start at the equivalent of a well-specced Porsche 718 Boxster, a top-of-the-range F-Type SVR with a few options is the same money as the Audi R8 Spyder.
Rear-wheel drive is standard on most F-Types, although four-wheel drive is optional on higher-powered V6 models and standard on V8s. As for gearboxes, all but the rear-wheel-drive V6s get an automatic as standard.
