If sharp handling is your top priority, it’s without doubt one of the most enjoyable cars in its class to drive – and it comes well equipped, too. R-Sport models feature all the same kit that's standard on Prestige but add front parking sensors and more aggressive styling both inside and out. This includes black detailing and bigger alloy wheels. It's an expensive update for not a lot of stuff, so we'd recommend sticking with the lower trims.

The cheapest engine is this 2.0-litre diesel, which returns an impressive claimed average fuel economy of 62.8mpg. It drives the XF Sportbrake’s rear wheels and comes with the option of a manual or an automatic gearbox. This model is the cheapest to run as a company car, too. However, we reckon it’s worth upgrading to the 2.0d 180, which offers more pace for not a lot more money.
