Used Jeep Avenger 2023-present reliability
Category: Small SUV
The Jeep Avenger is stylish, good to drive and cheap to run, but Jeep’s poor reliability record gives reason for concern as a used buy.

What should I look for in a used Jeep AVENGER hatchback?
As with any used car, inspect the bodywork and wheels for damage and the interior for signs of wear and tear. Make sure the car has a full service history, too.
One area to check are the car’s electrical systems. During our long-term test of a Jeep Avenger Electric, we encountered a few software issues, so it's important to ensure all scheduled software updates have been carried out. Also, double-check the interior electronics are functioning properly (such as the infotainment system).
When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.

What are the most common problems with a used Jeep AVENGER hatchback?
There have been three recall notices so far for the Jeep Avenger. If you want to check whether any of the recalls have been carried out, you can contact your local Jeep dealer. You will not need to pay for anything involving the recall.
Reason for recall
On affected vehicles equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) functionality, the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) can be deactivated simultaneously. The vehicle does not therefore meet regulatory requirements.
How the manufacturer will repair: Install updated software.
Number of affected vehicles: 130
Date of recall: 29/10/2024
Reason for recall
Affected vehicles have been equipped with a front camera that has an incorrect hardware level ID, causing an error code within the car system resulting in the ADAS system remaining inactive.
How the manufacturer will repair: Replace the front camera.
Number of affected vehicles: 2
Date of recall: 21/11/2024
Reason for recall
Affected vehicles may have been fitted with a steering rack which does not conform to specification. This can lead to the need for increased force to rotate the steering wheel and in a worst-case scenario the steering may lock causing a crash.
How the manufacturer will repair: Replace the steering rack.
Number of affected vehicles: 36
Date of recall: 17/12/2024

Is a used Jeep AVENGER hatchback reliable?
The Avenger is too new to have featured in our latest What Car? Reliability Survey and Jeep didn’t get enough responses to rank in our overall brand rankings. However, to give you a steer on reliability, Jeep has finished near the bottom of our brand rankings in recent years. In 2023, it finished in last place in the brand section, which doesn’t bode well for the Avenger.
What also doesn’t bode well was our experience of running an Avenger Electric for a long-term test, because we had a couple of issues during our ownership.
The first problem was with the driver’s display and infotainment screen, which went blank on start-up. This didn’t leave the car undrivable, but it did go back to the Jeep dealer, who fixed the issue with a software update.
The second issue did leave the car undrivable, because on one occasion the car refused to start and engage gear. After 10 days at the dealer, this was diagnosed as a software issue, so an update eventually sorted it out.
It’s worth noting our test car was a pre-production model, so some of these issues should have been ironed out for production models. Be sure to check the electrics before buying a car though, just to be sure. Also make sure the software updates have been carried out.
