The Commander is decent value and well equipped. However, the diesel engine is not as frugal as a Land Rover Discovery’s and it’s unlikely the Jeep will hang on to its value as tenaciously as the Disco in years to come.
Jeep Commander 4x4 quality & reliability
Jeep has put the Commander together with care and attention, helped by European models being built in Austria rather than in the States. Fit and finish appear to be top notch, but some of the materials used look and feel cheaper than those found in many competitors. Proven engines and transmissions should be trouble-free.
Jeep Commander 4x4 safety & security
All Commander models come with electronic stability control and full-time four-wheel-drive. There are twin front and side curtain airbags that run the full length of all three rows of seats, while all seven seats have a three-point seat belt. Central locking and an alarm come as standard.
