The Jeep Compass has impressive off-road credentials, but its poor road manners and noisy engines mean it's ultimately off the pace

Trim: Longitude

Longitude models get a larger 8.4in infotainment screen that incorporates Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a reversing camera, keyless entry, 17in alloy wheels, part-synthetic-leather seats with lumbar support, dual-zone climate control, power folding door mirrors and front foglights. This trim represents the best value in the range.

Engine: 1.6 Multijet 120

This diesel engine is only available with front-wheel drive but, in regular driving, you’re unlikely to notice the absence of four-wheel drive. The engine is quite peppy and has decent low-down pull.
