Used Kia Niro EV 2022-2026 reliability review

A talented car and great value, the Kia Niro EV is good to drive, relatively plush inside, and has a decent range as well.

What should I look for in a used Kia Niro?

What are the most common problems with a used Kia Niro?

When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.

We haven’t heard of any serious issues concerning the Niro EV. That said, it pays to have a good poke around to see that everything works; all Niro EVs are relatively well equipped, so there’s lots to check.

It’s also worth making sure that the Niro you’re inspecting has been looked after. It's a popular car with families and taxi drivers alike, so check the interior for any damage. Also pay attention to the upholstery to see if there are any stains.

A good check around the outside of the Niro EV is advisable, too. Check for scratches, dents and kerbed alloy wheels.

In our latest What Car? Reliability Survey, it ranked 11th out of 27 cars in the electric car class. Its reliability score of 92.2% makes it more reliable than the larger Kia EV6, as well as the Audi Q4 e-tron, MG ZS EV and Nissan Ariya. The Tesla Model Y and Renault Scenic are even more reliable buys, though.

As a car brand, Kia performed well, placing eighth out of 30 manufacturers. Its overall reliability score of 93.4% makes it a more reliable brand than Skoda, Renault and Volkswagen, but less reliable than Tesla and Toyota.

Used Kia Niro EV reliability: the owners' view

The Niro EV and its e-Niro predecessor have been commended for their exceptional reliability, with very few reports of mechanical issues.

Owners highlighted their vehicle's robustness, praising its electric battery and motor for their trouble-free operation.

However, a small number of comments mentioned minor electrical glitches, such as issues with the infotainment system. The response from Kia's dealer network to any problems has been overwhelmingly positive, with quick and efficient resolutions often noted. Dealers were recognized for their excellent communication and for providing comprehensive support, ensuring minimal inconvenience. Furthermore, the warranty coverage was a frequent point of praise, offering owners peace of mind.
