Review

Stick to the lower trim levels, which offer the best value for money, and the Sportage is worth a look, with decent rear space and a sensible boot. However, we think other Family SUVs, such as the Skoda Karoq, are better options – the Karoq is even more practical and better to drive. That’s because the Sportage isn't that comfortable, its engines are noisy and limited in range, and it lacks an essential piece of safety kit (AEB) on all but the top trim.

get the best price

This sporty-looking trim is based on 2, adding 19in wheels, LED front and rear lights, a front wiper de-icer, black and grey leather seats, a sports steering wheel with a flat bottom, front parking sensors and keyless entry and start. We’d recommend 3 trim instead as you get more luxuries in lieu of the sporty makeover.

Adding a turbo to the 1.6-litre petrol gives it a lot more punch, plus it has the option of four-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. It doesn’t feel as strong as similarly powerful engines in rivals, proves juicy and emits an awful lot of CO2, though.
