Review

The Discovery Sport, especially in seven-seat form, is far more practical and family-friendly than rivals such as the Audi Q5 and BMW X3, which is why it's one of our favourite large SUVs. Those German alternatives are ultimately more comfortable, nimbler and fuel-efficient, though, while you can get even more space for less with the excellent Peugeot 5008.

Over S, you get bigger 19in wheels, upgraded LED headlights with auto high beam assist, a powered tailgate, digital dials and blindspot monitoring. If you fancy a few extra luxuries, it's worth considering.

The P250, with 247bhp, feels a fair bit brisker than the P200 and will pull off 0-62mph in 7.3sec, although neither of the petrol engines can match the low-rev pull offered by diesel Discovery Sports. This engine will be quite pricey to fuel.
