The Land Rover Discovery Sport is a practical and comfortable family load-lugger with a well-finished interior and the option of seven seats with most engines. The lower trim levels are competitively priced yet come with plenty of standard equipment. The D200 diesel engine with Dynamic SE trim makes the most sense for private buyers (there's a PHEV version that will be better for company car users, but it's not available as a seven-seater).
The trim
The entry-level trim gets dual-zone climate control, automatic lights and wipers, ambient interior lighting, heated and electrically adjustable front seats and a heated windscreen, plus off-road systems including Terrain Response, hill-descent control and low-traction launch.
The engine
This 2.0-litre diesel with 197bhp offers a useful amount of extra power over the D165 and covers 0-62mph in 8.6 seconds, plus an impressive 2,500kg towing capacity.
