It might well be the Evoque’s looks that piqued your interest, but it’s a fine car on more objective levels, too. It’s good to drive, really posh inside and is even fairly practical by class standards. Smoother than the diesels and quicker than all of them, bar the most powerful D240, if you rev it hard – but prepare to spend a lot of time at the fuel pumps if you do. What it lacks, compared with even the lower-power diesels, is pulling power; if you tow a caravan or trailer do bear that in mind.
