Review

Some rivals are faster and more fun to drive, but few are as comfortable or refined as the Range Rover Sport. We’d advise looking at a D300 diesel unless the P400e works for your lifestyle or bank balance. Stick to the lower trim levels, too, as costs soon shoot up.

This high-end trim is offered only with the punchier engines; the D300, D350, P400 and P400e. It comes with a panoramic glass roof, three-zone climate control, cooled front seats, a heated steering wheel and adaptive cruise control. It also gets an upgraded sound system. A pricey but exceedingly well-equipped option.

The D300 is our favourite of the Range Rover Sport’s engines. It’s a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel that’s impressively smooth and has plenty of performance from low down in the rev range. Flat out it’ll crack 0-62mph in 7.3sec while you should get over 30mpg without too much difficulty.
