Review

If you're after supreme comfort, masses of passenger space, a lovely interior and a smooth and powerful engine, the sumptuous Range Rover will do it all. However, we think the entry-level D300 diesel Vogue is all you really need, with maybe a few choice options, or the P400e plug-in hybrid if you're a company car buyer looking to save on tax. That's because the cheaper Audi Q7 and BMW X7 are at least as good in most respects, and the top-end versions of the Range Rover are just too expensive unless money really is no object. In which case, why not have a look at the Bentley Bentayga. Just be aware that Land Rover's reliability record is pretty shocking.

get the best price

Autobiography has a lavish specification, with a sliding panoramic roof, more powerful Pixel adaptive LED headlights, 24-way electrically adjustable, massaging and ventilated front seats, four-zone climate control, a suede headlining, adaptive cruise control, electric rear seats and lane assist. And that's on top of everything you get with the Vogue SE trim. It's too pricey for us to recommend, though.

This supercharged 5.0-litre V8 with 518bhp has bags of performance in hand (0-62mph takes 5.4sec) but, in the real world, it’s little faster than either of the diesels unless you're really prepared to rev it hard. It’s also embarrassingly inefficient, with real-world economy in the low-20mpg range if you're very lucky.
