Like the related A-Class, the CLA is much improved over its predecessor. With tidy handling and a largely comfortable ride, it’s a classy alternative to the Audi A3 Saloon. But although its styling might appeal, it's pricier and less practical than its German rival.get the best price
The CLA range opens with AMG Line, which gives you 18in alloy wheels, a sporty body kit, LED headlights, a 7.0in digital instrument cluster, a 10.3in infotainment screen with DAB radio and sat nav, heated front seats and wireless charging. AMG Line Premium is worth considering for the larger instrument display, keyless entry and an upgraded stereo, but we’d avoid Premium Plus.
Move up to a 220 and you get a 2.0-litre petrol engine with a hearty 187bhp. We’re yet to try it, though.
