The CLK is based on the old C-class platform, but even with the canvas top that still leaves plenty of space for a lanky driver to spread out, and the formal dash layout of the old saloon has been lifted with new-shaped, classier trim. It's a bit dark, though, and areas of your over-the-shoulder vision are severely restricted.
Mercedes-Benz CLK Sports space & practicality
The tilt-and-slide mechanism on the front seats of the CLK makes entry and exit a bit more dignified, while Mercedes has given up any pretence of the car seating more than four. A stout storage box fills the gap in the centre. Legroom isn't generous, and with the roof in place headroom's tight for adults.
Mercedes-Benz CLK Sports equipment
There's something close to a standard spec on all CLKs - air conditioning or climate control, a single CD player, electric seat adjustment, a steering column which moves two ways and the works in terms of passive and active safety features. The V6s and V8s have automatic transmission and the eight- cylinder car also has metallic paint as standard.
