Despite having four doors, you still trade practicality for style, but otherwise the Mercedes CLS offers great pace and tidy handlingget the best price
Trim: AMG Line
Comes with plenty of luxury gizmos, including adaptive LED headlights, leather seats, part-electric front seats with lumbar adjustment and heating, climate control, parking sensors front and rear, a rear-view camera and power-folding door mirrors. Infotainment wise, you get sat-nav, a DAB radio and Bluetooth, all operated via the 12.3in central screen, with another 12.3in screen adjacent to it in place of analogue instruments. Safety aids include automatic emergency braking and lane assist, with blindspot monitoring an option.
Engine: CLS 450 4Matic
This mild hybrid option features a 3.0-litre straight-six turbocharged petrol engine and a small electric starter generator. That means you get small boosts (equivalent to around 20bhp extra) of electric power to supplement the engine’s already heady 362bhp. There’s no delay when you put your foot down – this is especially noticeable when darting away from traffic lights.
