Mercedes E-Class E300e AMG Line Edition 4dr 9G-Tronic Review

The model
Read full reviewThe Mercedes E-Class is a mixed bag. It's very well equipped and has a great range of engines, from efficient diesels, plug-in hybrids to punchy petrols. It's pretty quiet and comfortable on the motorway but the ride isn't perfect around town and, while the boot is big, the rear passenger compartment isn't, relative to its rivals. Overall, we'd say the BMW 5 Series is a better car to drive, has a better infotainment system and it's better built inside.

The engine
See full engine specsThe 300e is a good choice for company car drivers looking to reduce their tax bill. It's a 2.0-litre petrol engine combined with an electric motor that produces a total of 316bhp and can officially travel up to 34 miles on battery power alone. That's a match for the BMW 530e and it offers similar performance (0-62mph takes just 5.7sec). It will be extremely cheap to run if you keep the battery charged up, but run it just on the petrol engine and it will be nowhere near as frugal as the E220d.
