As premium SUVs go, the GLC offers a good range of engines and a pleasant interior with plenty of space for occupants. It’s the plug-in hybrid versions with their huge electric range that make it stand out above rivals, though, especially for company car drivers.

Entry-level AMG Line certainly gets plenty of equipment including 19in alloy wheels, an electric tailgate, LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, electrically adjusted leather seats, three-zone climate control and a 10.3in touchscreen infotainment system with sat nav.

Even this entry-level 2.0-litre diesel engine has plenty of power so getting up to speed in a hurry isn’t stressful, even with a full car. Efficiency isn’t bad, either.
