Right now, this 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel that produces 325bhp is the only engine on offer in the GLS. It’s impressively smooth and strong, and mostly works well with the standard nine-speed automatic gearbox. However, its average fuel economy is surpassed by most rivals, including the BMW X7 xDrive40d, which is also quicker.
