What should I look for in a used MG MG4 hatchback?
When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.
There isn't anything specific to the MG4 to look out for yet. It's worth noting that you'll need to go for Trophy trim or the XPower to maximise safety kit. These versions add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assistance. You get automatic emergency braking (AEB) and lane-keeping assistance on all models, though.
The MG4 scored the full five stars for safety when it was tested by Euro NCAP, although it's worth noting that adult occupant crash protection was found to be significantly better in the Born.

However, it performed poorly in our latest reliability survey, coming bottom of its class. With issues in almost all of our fault categories, 30% of the cars reported on went wrong. MG only paid for repairs in 55% of cases, leaving 39% of faults costing £1000 or more to put right, according to owners. Repairs weren’t always swift, either; 68% of affected cars took more than a week to fix.
Owner's view: "The charging socket on my brand new MG 4 broke after just 10 weeks of ownership."
Used MG4: owners' reliability data
As part of our Reliability Survey, What Car? readers said the MG4 demonstrates poor reliability.
Several owners reported issues with electrical faults, such as software glitches and warning lights appearing on the dashboard. A few mentioned that these problems were intermittent, leading to frustration.
Feedback on dealership service was mixed. While some praised their local MG dealerships for being helpful and resolving issues promptly, others expressed dissatisfaction.
