Review

The Mini Countryman offers a great combination of space, style and desirability, with just enough on-road fun. But there are still alternatives out there that offer a more premium feel, such as the Audi Q2, or an overall more composed ride, such as the Seat Ateca.

Trim: Cooper Classic

This is the cheapest way into Mini ownership but still brings a fair amount of kit. There are LED front and rear lights, auto lights and wipers, a 6.5in infotainment controlled by a rotary dial, Bluetooth, a DAB radio and a multi-function steering wheel. You’ll have to jump into the options list to get alloy wheels, though.

Engine: 1.5

With only 134bhp and 243lb ft of torque, the 1.5-litre engine feels rather underpowered. And being a three-cylinder, it fails to match the Cooper S’s smoother four-cylinder motor.
