2015 will see the arrival of a new version of one of the biggest selling cars in the UK - the Vauxhall Astra.
The new car is expected to go on sale in October 2015, and will aim to overtake its closest rival, the Ford Focus.
It will go on sale about the time of a big update for the Vauxhall engine range, so it is set to benefit from three new engine familes. These families include 13 individual petrol and diesel units, and they will all be in the Vauxhall range by the time the Astra arrives.
One possible engine of interest for the new Astra is the new 114bhp 1.0-litre three cylinder turbocharged petrol that will be offered in the new Corsa and the Adam city car. The Focus already uses a similarly sized engine in the form of the 1.0-litre Ecoboost.
The new Astra is also expected to offer versions of the 1.6-litre whisper diesel that features in the current Astra, as well as a 1.6-litre petrol. More powerful 2.0-litre diesels are also possible.
Even though Vauxhall plans to reduce the weight of the new car, thanks to new lightweight materials and new construction methods, early spy shots suggest that the 2015 Astra is going to be longer than the current car. This should lead to an increased amount of space for both passengers and luggage.
