The Maserati Alfieri, first seen in concept form in 2014, will go on sale in 2016.
What is it?
The Alfieri is Maserati's sports car rival for the likes of the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type.
First revealed in concept form at the Geneva motor show in 2014, the Alfieri gets its name from Alfieri Maserati, one of four brothers who founded the sports car company. The Alfieri is inspired by the 1954 Maserati A6 GCS road and race car.
The car is based on the same chassis as the Maserati Granturismo MC Stradale, and uses that car's carbon-ceramic brakes and Brembo calipers. The final production car is expected to weigh around 1400kg.
What engines can I choose from?
The Alfieri concept features the same 4.7-litre V8 engine as the MC Stradale, which develops 460bhp and 383lb ft. However, the production Alfieri will get Maserati's 325bhp and 404bhp V6 engines.
**How much equipment does it come with?
**The interior of the Alfieri concept car was built around a large central infotainment screen, but it's likely this will feature on the production car. The 2+2 interior is finished in a material that simulates the oxidised steel finish found on 1950s race cars.
**How much does it cost?
**Maserati has yet to reveal official pricing for the Alfieri, but it's likely that the model will sit at the very top of the firm's range. That means a premium over the £118,855 Granturismo MC Centennial Edition is likely.
How good are its rivals?
Both the Jaguar F-Type and Porsche 911 are regarded as fine driver's cars. The F-Type currently holds a four-star rating from What Car? while the 911 has a full five stars.
