The ST-Line has a simple yet challenging brief: offer customers the aggressive looks of the ST hot hatch and a keen drive, but while retaining everyday usability and reasonable running costs.

In short, it delivers on that excellently. With its sharp looks, sharp handling and plush ride, the Fiesta ST-Line will be a more temping proposition than both the Renault Clio GT-Line and Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo for keen drivers.

Granted, in five-door 138bhp guise, it isn't exactly cheap, being priced from £17,595, but running costs should be low thanks to an official combined fuel economy figure of 63.0mpg and relatively eco-friendly CO2 emissions of 102g/km.

ST-Line also comes with lots of standard kit, including a heated windscreen, air conditioning, keyless start and Ford's latest Sync 3 inftoainment system with Bluetooth connectivity.

So, if you're looking for a well rounded small car that's as engaging as it is practical, the new Fiesta ST-Line should most certainly be on your shortlist.
