Where does that leave the new Civic Type R, then? Well, the Focus RS is arguably more fun to drive thanks to its fancy Drift mode, while the Golf R is all about efficient, if slightly dull-at-its-limits, surefootedness and day-to-day usability.
The Type R is still way more track focused than either, but the changes now make it more of a realistic everyday proposition too. And for that reason, it gets the full five stars.
