2017 Nissan Micra 1.5 dCi 90 verdict and specs
The new Nissan Micra fell short of the best superminis in petrol form, but does it make more sense as a diesel?...
Should I buy one?
Nissan expects diesels to account for a quarter of UK Micra sales, but that may be an optimistic estimate. The £1350 premium Nissan asks for this engine over an equivalent petrol isn't atypical, but the petrol is already more expensive than rivals such as the Fabia, and the diesel Micra is also more expensive than the petrol for company car tax.
True, the diesel offers superior fuel economy, but it's a less complete all-round package. And if public opinion continues to turn away from diesel as it’s threatening to, expect small hatchbacks like this to be among the earliest casualties. If you're set on a small diesel hatchback, the [Fiesta](http://(www.whatcar.com/ford/fiesta/hatchback/review/) is better to drive and just as practical, while the Fabia is more refined, more practical, and better value for money.
