Join What Car? for an exclusive preview of the new Citroën C4 Cactus on Monday 29 January in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.

When Citroën revealed the original C4 Cactus family hatchback back in 2014, it got quite the reception. Its unconventional styling, with the multi-layered front lights, rounded design theme and plastic Airbump door protectors showed that Citroën, a firm historically known for its bold and innovative designs – such as the DS and SM – had regained its confidence.

And clearly the public liked it, for the C4 Cactus was a hit and the latest additions to la famille Citroën – the C3, C3 Aircross and C5 Aircross – have all borrowed from its closet.

But with the increasing popularity of small SUVs, the C4 Cactus required an update, and the one it has received is billed by Citroën as the biggest it has undertaken on any model. This encompasses a styling overhaul, with a more aggressive-looking front end and the reduction and lowering of its Airbumps, new engines, extra safety kit and comfier seats. The biggest news, however, is the introduction of Citroën's new 'progressive hydraulic cushion' suspension, which is said to give the car a 'magic carpet ride'.
