2018 Jeep Renegade - verdict

Jeep has yet to finalise prices and trim specifications, so it’s difficult to come to a resolute and final conclusion. But what we can say, without doubt, is that despite offering buyers funky styling, an impressive infotainment system, decent interior space, and if you opt for the entry-level 1.0 engine, decent fuel economy, the Renegade still isn’t our small SUV of choice.

Ultimately, the Seat Arona delivers a far more rewarding driving experience, as well as a stronger range of petrol engines, and the Volkswagen T-Roc has a classier interior and more refined on-road manners. Perhaps, the range-topping 178bhp 1.3 Renegade with its nine-speed automatic gearbox will deliver a more polished on road experience, but we suspect that a high sticker price and expensive running costs will put off the majority of buyers.
