Join What Car? for an exclusive preview of the new Nissan Leaf on Wednesday 15 November in Gillingham, Kent.

The original Leaf was something of a pioneer, being the first electric car to sell in real numbers in the UK. However, it had its flaws, primarily in its range and price, not to mention the divisive styling.

And the electric car market is looking like it's about to seriously take off, with upcoming mass-market entries from the likes of Audi, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mini, Porsche, Tesla, Volkswagen and Volvo.

But Nissan won't be left behind. The second-generation Leaf addresses the key criticisms of its predecessor: its claimed range has been boosted to 235 miles from 154 miles, the price is unlikely to go up much, despite the improved tech and standard kit, and it has a sporty, angular styling similar to that of the latest Micra.

Having recently driven it, we were impressed by the improvements. On the road, it's more stable and less stodgy on the power; inside, it's airier, better-quality and filled with new tech.
