2018 Range Rover Velar P300 review – verdict
Does the stylish Range Rover Velar still work as a luxury SUV when fitted with...
In some ways, this four-cylinder P300 engine works well in the Velar. It's quiet around town, for starters, and feels luxurious in its smoothness, even if the same cannot be said for its exhaust note when pressed hard. That you can still have air suspension for a pilllowy high-speed ride is nice, too.
But if you're looking at the cheaper end of the Velar range, we'd still recommend the D240 diesel first. It isn't quite as quick or refined, no, but it is cheaper to buy and run, emitting less CO2 and returning much better fuel economy for more miles between fill-ups.
Ultimately, though, when it comes to luxury SUVs, the old adage rings true: the more cylinders, the better. And, indeed, for the most luxurious Velar, you'll need a six-cylinder model.
