As you might have guessed already, the Megane RS Cup is not for those who just want a hatchback with a bit more fire in its belly. Add the Cup chassis to the regular Megane RS and you’re left with a car that prioritises an exhilarating drive above all else.

Does that make the Megane a better car to drive than the Civic Type R? That’s a tough one to call. It's certainly exciting, but many will prefer the precision of the Civic. It’s also worth mentioning that the Civic is more spacious, comfier and faster.

However, the Megane has one more ace up its sleeve. Not only is its list price much lower than even the entry-level Civic Type R's, but it’s also a complete steal on finance. Put down a £3000 deposit on a three-year PCP with a mileage limit of 10,000 a year and you’ll pay just £375 a month. A Civic Type R under the same terms is a far chunkier £470.

That bargain price and the addictive driving experience just tips this Cup version of the Megane RS into five-star car territory. If you’re wondering whether that makes this our new favourite hot hatch, you’ll just have to wait until Friday to see what happens when the Megane takes on the Civic Type R and Volkswagen Golf R in a rather exciting triple test.

And remember, if you want to buy the Megane or one of its rivals, then do peruse our New Car Buying section for some seriously tasty deals.
