The Volkswagen Group's new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine finally makes its way into the Seat Ateca. Is it a worthy replacement for the fantastic 1.4 TSI?...

The good news is that the 1.5 TSI is, to all intents and purposes, just as accomplished as the 1.4 TSI it replaces, therefore making it our new pick of the range. But would we pick sporty FR trim?

As it turns out, we would. It’s not much more money than SEL, yet it comes with larger 18in alloy wheels, a gloss-black grille, twin exhaust pipes, body-coloured wheel arch surrounds and sports seats. You also get LED headlights and a rear-view camera. Plus, the more desirable styling means FR models should hold onto their value better than lesser versions.

So, if you like driving and need a well-equipped SUV, we reckon the Ateca 1.5 TSI Evo FR should be at the top of your list.
