2018 Volkswagen Polo GTI review – verdict

Although it's still not the most thrilling offering in this class in terms of handling, the new Polo GTI manages to provide a multifaceted hot hatch experience akin to that of the Golf GTI. No car in this segment manages to offer as comfortable and premium an experience paired with such punchy performance.

An estimated starting price of around £20,000 means the Polo GTI will be more expensive than most rivals. However, given the success of its bigger brother, the Golf GTI, which also costs more than most rivals, it illustrates that there is a hunger for high-quality performance hatchbacks. Plus, the car’s list of technology and premium interior mean it doesn't look or feel overpriced.
