Is the sleek new Volvo S60 the car to take down big-selling German executive saloons such as the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series?...

2019 Volvo S60 verdict

Volvo hasn’t announced definitive pricing for the S60 yet, although the 250bhp T6 is expected to cost around £38,000, with the flagship Twin-Engine T8 Polestar Engineered car coming in at just over £50,000.

Admittedly, these are not numbers to lure in those on a budget, but first impressions of the S60 suggest Volvo has a right to be confident in its pricing. The keenest drivers may find the car a touch blunt in terms of its handling, but for everybody else, this is an unusually refined, quick and attractive saloon.

But before we get too carried away, it’s worth remembering that we’ve only driven the punchiest versions of the S60. The real test will come when we get the more common place T4 and T5 versions back in the UK, which are likely to constitute the bulk of its sales.
