2020 Ford Kuga - exclusive Reader Test Team preview
Join What Car? for an exclusive preview of the new Ford Kuga on Tuesday 16 July in Essex...
Despite having been on sale since 2013, the Ford Kuga is now more popular than ever. And Ford can surely expect sales to climb even further when its new, third-generation family SUV goes on sale early next year with new styling, a redesigned interior and three different types of hybrid power on offer.
The new Kuga is more "sensual" than the current car, according to its designer, while the interior follows those of the latest Fiesta and Focus by featuring more upmarket materials and Ford's new Sync 3 touchscreen infotainment system. Other technology on offer includes a wi-fi hotspot, a head-up display and an automatic parking system.
The Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai rival is longer, wider and lighter than before, too, plus its front and rear axles are farther apart, creating more space inside for people and luggage. As a bonus, the rear seats now slide back and forth as standard.
Power comes from conventional petrol and diesel engines, a petrol engine that's boosted by a 48-volt electrical system, a hybrid that charges itself as you drive or a plug-in hybrid that's capable of driving for up to 34 miles on electricity alone, allowing for a company car tax-busting official CO2 emissions figure of 29g/km.
Manual and automatic gearboxes will be available, depending on the model, along with front or four-wheel drive. Prices are expected to start from around £24,000.
