The Porsche Taycan is rightly considered to be a halo car for its maker – read one designed to attract new buyers and existing ones with a raft of cutting-edge technology – and it’s a fitting title; the Taycan 4S is exciting to drive and beautifully crafted inside, and although it can’t match the Tesla Model S for outright range, the ability to charge in less time than it takes to drink a latte at a motorway service station means that a continent-crossing road trip needn’t be out of reach – or, frankly, a week’s worth of school runs and office commutes without the need to plug in every night.

Here’s the biggest reason to buy one: it costs a whopping £32,491 less than the Turbo model. That’s a huge chunk of change – enough to buy a lightly used 718 Cayman for some extra weekend fun, in fact. The Taycan already strikes the balance between power, range and luxury so well, but a lower price while keeping the same smile-inducing thrills makes this 4S the version to go for. Like Goldilocks’ porridge, this third Taycan model is just right.
