Aston Martin says its Toyota iQ-based Cygnet city car will go into production next year.
Originally revealed as a concept car in March, the smallest-ever Aston is likely to cost from around 30,000 three times the price of an entry-level iQ.
Although there are no mechanical changes to the car the Cygnet uses the more powerful 97bhp 1.3-litre engine from the iQ range it does look significantly different.
Cosmetic changes include new bumpers, new light clusters and grille, plus a slashed front wing to give the car the Aston look. The leather-lined interior is also markedly different from the iQ's.
Aston Martin boss Ulrich Bez said: 'Our customers need a small car for urban and city use, and they want the right tools for the job. The Cygnet needs to satisfy the demands of emissions and space. It is a car without compromise, just like every other Aston Martin.'
The Cygnet is also unlike any other Aston Martin. With emissions of 113g/km, it is the cleanest Aston by a vast amount, and will help to lower the brand's average CO2 profile.
Claimed fuel economy is 58.9mpg 38.5mpg better than the next best figure of 20.4mpg from the 420bhp 4.7-litre V8 Vantage.
The Cygnet is significantly slower than any other Aston, of course, with a 0-62mph time of 11.8 seconds and a top speed of 106mph.
Existing Aston Martin owners will be offered the chance to buy the Cygnet first, but it will then be made available to all car buyers.
