Audi has added a second, more powerful diesel engine to its A1 line up.

The new 141bhp 2.0-litre TDI engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, giving the the A1 range a direct rival for the Mini Cooper SD.

Audi quotes a 0-62mph time of 8.2 seconds, average economy of 68.9mpg and CO2 emissions of 108g/km for the new model. Prices start at 17,945.

Audi has also announced two new trims for the A1 range.

Black Edition trim carries an 1100 premium and is available only with the most powerful engines; the new 2.0-litre diesel and the 182bhp 1.4-litre TFSI petrol.

Based on S line specification, it adds black styling touches to the grille surround and numberplate, tinted rear windows, 18-inch alloy wheels and LED daytime-running lights. The interior upgrades are electronic climate control and a 180-watt stereo system.

Contrast Edition trim can be added to Sport models for a 1350 premium. Its available for all engines apart from the most powerful 1.4-litre petrol and adds a bodykit and roof trim in contrasting colour. There are bi-colour 17-inch alloy wheels, too, and a double-blade roof spoiler can be added at extra cost.

The new A1 2.0 TDI, Black Edition and Contrast Edition models are available to order now.
