Audi reveals A1 Sportback

This is the Audi A1 Sportback a five-door version of the supermini that's due to go on sale early next year.

The car is a little taller and a little wider than the three-door version, which allows for more space in the rear seats, says Audi. The A1 Sportback will come with five seats as standard, although customers can specify a four-seat layout at no extra charge.

From launch, there will be three petrol engines and one diesel. The petrol range comprises a 1.2 TFSI unit and two 1.4 TFSI engines with either 121bhp or 183bhp.

The 104bhp 1.6-litre TDI diesel averages 74.2mpg and emits just 99g/km of carbon dioxide. A 141bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine will join the A1 Sportback range in the summer. Only the higher-powered 1.4 misses out on engine stop-start fuel-saving technology.

The A1 Sportback comes in SE, Sport and S line trims. All models get alloy wheels, remote central locking and electric windows.

A1 Sportback models cost 560 more than the equivalent three-door variant, meaning the entry-level 1.2 SE starts at 13,980. The range-topping 1.4 185 S line starts at 21,270.
