Best and worst small SUVs

The best: Seat Ateca 1.4 TSI 150 SE Tech

The Seat Ateca is the new cream of the small SUV crop – a title held until recently by the mighty Nissan Qashqai. The Ateca is class-leading in almost every area, though, and with the range starting from just £17,990, it's also keenly priced. Add to that a spacious interior and excellent handling on the road, and the Ateca is a truly great package.

Best and worst large SUVs

The best: Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI 150 SE-L

Skoda's first SUV has moved straight to the top of our large SUV rankings, and it's easy to see why. With a smart and practical interior, lots of clever touches to make life easier for families and keen pricing, the Kodiaq is an excellent all-rounder. The SE-L trim we recommend gets you seven seats and sat-nav as standard.

Best and worst people carriers and MPVs

The best: Volkswagen Touran 1.6 TDI 110 SE

The Volkswagen Touran is our favourite MPV at the moment, because it does everything buyers in this segment will expect, brilliantly. It's roomy, practical and well built – making it able to stand up to the demands that families may place on it. With prices starting from £22,795 it might be one of the more expensive MPV options around, but it's also one of the best.
