1. Audi R8
With dimensions compact enough that driving it isn’t a challenge in town, the Audi R8 truly is a supercar you can use every day. And when you get out into the country, you can exploit the massive punch of either the V8 or V10 engine, not to mention the fabulous balance and four-wheel-drive grip of the chassis. A fantastic interior tops off a truly complete all-round package – and the best news is that prices have fallen to genuinely accessible levels for many, making the R8 something of a bargain.
And the sports cars to avoid…
The Chevrolet Corvette looks great, but it feels sloppy to drive and the ride is uncomfortable. Throw in cheap interior plastics and it’s a recipe for unpleasantness.
The Lamborghini Gallardo's head-turning looks belie the fact that isn't as involving to drive as the best supercars, while dire visibility, poor interior fittings and an unforgiving ride all spoil it yet further.
