Car of the Year Awards 2021: Best small SUV interior

A small SUV's compact size mustn’t come at the expense of practicality and should be reflected by low running costs. It should ride comfortably, too, while maintaining a sense of fun...

Audi has a reputation for building some of the finest car interiors going, and despite the Q2 being at the cheaper end of the stable, it upholds that reputation with every perfectly damped switch and luxurious finish.

Its dashboard has a brilliantly logical, intuitive layout and comes complete with one of the best infotainment systems around. And in all but the cheapest trim, you get fully digital instruments for a real high-tech flourish.

It’s not just about perceived material and build quality, either; the Q2 also has a great driving position with masses of movement to the steering wheel, as well as partial electric seat adjustment and adjustable lumbar support on every model. Every detail rams home the impression that you’re in a fully fledged premium SUV, just executed on a more compact scale.

Of course, the Q2 is tidy to drive as well, otherwise it wouldn’t have beaten rivals such as the Mini Countryman and Peugeot 2008. But above all else, it’s the Q2’s superbly executed interior that sets it apart.
